The cathode is mfd. from a mixt. of synthetic (chemical or electrochemical) or naturally active MnO2 and a specific carbon black which absorbs a saline electrolyte soln. The specific acetylene black has a carbon content greater than 99%, an average particle dia. of the order of 275 Angstroms, a specific surface of 100 sq.m/g., an electrical resistivity less than 0.35 ohm-cm. at pressure of 630,000 Pa, and a dibutyl phthalate absorption index greater than 350 ml. per 100 g. of black. A pref. compsn. is formed by addn. in undisclosed optimum conditions of 12.5% dry NH4Cl, 8.5% dry ZnCl2 and 16% of water to a cathode mixture contg. 59 wt.% MnO2 and 4 wt.% acetylene black. |
