PURPOSE:To securely stop the driving of a carriage when a cover is opened, by intermediately providing a cover-open switch in a power-supplying circuit for a spacing motor, in a printer wherein a carraige is controlled in accordance with the opening and closing of the cover. CONSTITUTION:When the cover of the printer is opened, the cover-open switch 23 is opened to cut off the power-supplying circuit for the spacing motor 17, so that the motor 17 is stopped, and the carriage is stopped at the position at the time of opening the cover. Simultaneously, a detecting switch 11 for the opening of the cover is also opened, and a signal Sp is outputted from a switch- monitoring circuit 12, so that a data-processing circuit 13 stops processing data, a carriage-controlling circuit 15 stops controlling a driving circuit 16, and causes a memory 18 for carriage position to store the carriage position at the time of opening the cover. When the cover is closed, the circuit 15 momentarily position the carriage to a home position, and then position the carriage to the position stored in the memory 18. |
