A thrust reverser comprises a flexible sheet 60 mounted on a support 51 movable between extended and retracted portions. The sheet lying in the efflux from a jet propulsion engine 14 when the support is extended, and taking up a curved shape to deflect the efflux. As described, two engines, each with a thrust reverser, are mounted on a fuselage 11 and the supports 51 are plates which form continuations of the fuselage skin when retracted. Each sheet is attached to an elastic line 61 to ensure that it lies within the recess 50 when retracted. The sheet may be of woven glass-fibre or metal, or sheet plastics, and the engines may be ducted fans, or by-pass engines, and may alternatively be wing-mounted. |
