PURPOSE:A luminous glass, containing a borate as a parent material, and Eu<3+> and Tb<3+> adopted in the luminescence center, capable of emitting light in the visible region by the stimulation with ultraviolet light, and having a low melting point and improved water resistance. CONSTITUTION:A transparent-semitransparent luminous glass consisting of the formula[RE is at least one element selected from lanthanum series and Y except Tb and Eu ; M is at least one element selected from Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Zn; (x), (y), (z), (p) and (q) are as follow: 1<=(x+y+z)<=30mol%; 0.1<=y<=20mol%, 0.1<=z<=20mol%; 0<=p<=60mol%; 30<=q<=80mol%], capable of emitting green- red light by the stimulation with ultraviolet light, having 550-750 deg.C softening point, 2-3% water solubility, and useful as optical fibers for optical transmission, optical signal sensors, binders of fluorescent substances in preparing ring-shaped lamps, and for improvement in color rendering properties, etc. |
