DIGITAL TRANSMISSION AND RECEPTION OF INFORMATION

A television system for transmitting and receiving digital information included in the conventional wide-band video signal is arranged to provide a display on a screen which display has a predetermined number of rows and each row is capable of including a predetermined number of characters. In order to cater for television video systems which do not allow the data for a complete row of display to be transmitted via one line period of the video, the transmitted digital information signal is provided with an additional control byte used to indicate a horizontal position in the display of at least a portion of the information transmitted in that line period and the receiver is provided with a decoder for decoding the additional control byte and using the decoded signal for controlling addressing of a conventional page store.
