A can end is formed with a removable panel 15 to provide a pouring opening, the panel 15 being defined by a score line 16 and extending radially from the centre of the can end to adjacent the rim of the can end, two short score lines 25 extending radially outwards from the score line 16 to form a hinge 26 in the can end material lying between them. A pull tab 24 is joined to the panel 15 by means of a rivet integral with the can end. The hinge 26 minimizes the risk of the panel 15 being completely removed if abnormal pressure within the can causes the panel 15 to be blown out when first opened by means of the tab 24. The panel 15 first hinges but then tears along its end part (28), Fig. 2 (not shown), when pressure or normal during opening. |
