PURPOSE:To attain a speed control with high safety, by regarding that the distance between cars has no change as long as the effectiveness is not assured for the data on the distance between cars and therefore preventing a sudden acceleration of the car. CONSTITUTION:A radar device 12 detects the distance between a car and its preceding car by a radar sensor 12A and then feeds a data signal 12B showing a safety speed of the car and a data effectiveness signal 12C showing whether the data is effective or not to a control circuit 1. The circuit 1 receives the repetitive information on the safety speed of car from the device 12 and decides a target car speed in a range that does not exceed the safety speed to start the treveling at a constant speed when a settting operation is carried out. In case the data on the inter-car distance has an abnormal change, the effective signal supplied from the device 12 is turned ineffective. As a result, the safety speed is not rewritten. Thus the value of safety speed is held even though the car reaches a curve and the preceding car gets out of the range of directivity of the sensor 12A. |
