PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium permitting easy recording at any of longer wavelengths and shorter wavelengths and reproduction with a ring type magnetic head by forming a magnetic layer with magnetic anisotropy in the vertical direction on a magnetic layer with magnetic anisotropy in the horizontal direction. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer with magnetic anisotropy in the horizontal direction is formed by applying magnetic fine particles of gamma-Fe2O3, Co-gamma-Fe2O3, CrO3 or the like to a base by means of a suitable binder or by vapor-depositing an alloy composed chiefly of Co, Ni and Fe on a base. On the magnetic layer a magnetic layer with magnetic anisotropy in the vertical direction is formed by sputtering Mn-Bi, Co-Cr, Gd-Co, Gd-Fe or the like or by applying a magnetic field in the vertical direction when magnetic fine particles of Co-gamma-Fe2O3 or the like are applied. |
