PURPOSE:To enhance the wear resistance and running stability, by forming a ferromagnetic thin film on a polymer layer having vermicular minute protrusions. CONSTITUTION:A smooth polyethylene terephthalate film stretched in one direction is prepared. An aqueous emulsion contg. at least one of silicone with 30,000-300,000mol.wt. and styrene-butadiene rubber with 20,000-1,000,000mol.wt., and a water soluble polymer with 10,000-2,000,000mol.wt. as principal components is applied to the surface of the film on which a magnetic layer is formed, and the applied emulsion is dried. The film is stretched in the direction perpendicular to said one direction or further stretched in said one direction and heat treated to form a base layer 3 having vermicular minute protrusions 2 on the surface and 50-2,000Angstrom thickness except the height of the protrusions on the film substrate 1. A ferromagnetic thin film 4 is then formed on the layer 3. |
