The process comprises gasifying carbonaceous dust in a burner, with oxygen or a gas contg. oxygen and water vapour and possibly an addn. of CO2. The primary gas thus obtd. is conducted through a bulk of larger pieces of carbonaceous material in a vertical gasifier, forming an under pressure, producing gas and forming a liq. slag. The liq. slag is received in a slag bath and is made to flow over a weir into a bath of cold water provided in the gasifier. The liq. slag is divided during its free fall between the weir and the cold water bath by jets of water. The slag is cooled and the steam formed is brought to the lower free surface of the bulk of larger pieces of carbonaceous material to form part of the steam necessary for the process. The process is more reliable and more efficient economically than existing processes. Better use is made of the heat in the liq. slag and pollution of the environment is less.
|
