[Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions suitable for oral, parenteral, rectal or topical administration comprise a sulphonamide of formula: wherein AlK is C 2-5 alkylene joining the benzene ring to the nitrogen atom through two or three carbon atoms; R1 is an alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, or cycloalkenyl radical of up to six carbon atoms or a phenyl or naphthyl radical (optionally substituted by halogen or an alkyl alkenyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl or alkoxy radical having up to six carbon atoms); R2 is hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl, or benzyl; R3 is hydrogen or an alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, cycloalkylalkyl, cycloalkenylalkyl, polycycloalkyl, polycycloalkenyl, polycycloalkylalkyl, polycycloalkenylalkyl, aryl aralkyl, aralkenyl, aryloxyalkyl, heterocyclic, heterocycloalkyl, heteropolycyclic or heteropolycycloalkyl radical of up to 10 carbon atoms and optionally substituted by up to two substituents selected from hydroxyl, carboxyl, amino, halogen, methylenedioxy, R1SO 2 NH (where R1 is as above) and C 1-4 alkyl and alkoxy; or NR2R3 is a heterocyclic group having up to 11 carbon atoms; or an acid addition salt thereof (e.g. hydrochloride), together with a suitable carrier. These compounds have pressor or depressor activity. The compositions may additionally include tranquilizers, sedatives, analeptics, analgesics, antipyretics, hypnotics, antibiotics (polymixin, tyrothrycin, gramicidin, tyrocidin, neomycin), antihistamines (chlorprophenpyridamine maleate, methdilazine hydrochloride), antiinflammatory agents (cortisone phosphate), surfactants, antiseptics (thimerasol, benzalkonium chloride), or mucolytic agents (tyloxypal).
