For a device for the optical guidance of missiles, in which the displacement of the missile from the optical axis of the device is determined, a method for filtering out interfering emitters is used in which, by means of an aperture and/or filter element which can be adjusted within the image plane of the device, only the radiation from a flare charge arranged on the missile passes to the radiation detector. In this case, when the missile is launched, the entire image field is covered by an aperture and/or filter element whose transmission is low such that the radiation intensity of the missile flare charge provides a displacement signal which can still be detected. After determining the missile displacement from the optical axis, the transmission of the aperture and/or filter element is increased in an image region which directly surrounds the missile. In order to implement the method, the aperture and/or filter element is constructed, for example, as a circular disc with low transmission, which disc has a central region of high transmission and is adjusted within the image plane as a function of the displacement of the missile from the optical axis of the device.
