Aminoalkyl cyclic ethers of the general formula <IMAGE> in which R<3> denotes <IMAGE> n denotes an integer between zero and 4, o denotes zero or 1, p denotes zero or 1, R<1> denotes hydrogen or R<2>, R<2> denotes C1-C8-alkyl and <IMAGE> as a whole can form a ring which may contain O, NR<4> (R<4> is H, C1-C8-alkyl) or S, are prepared by reaction of amines of the general formula <IMAGE> with aldehydes of the general formula <IMAGE> or of amines of the general formula R<3>-CH2-NH2 with aldehydes of the general formula <IMAGE> in the presence of hydrogen and hydrogenation catalysts at elevated temperatures and pressures and are used as catalysts in the preparation of polyurethanes.
