The apparatus possesses at least one pair of synchronously driven driving discs (10, 14 and 11, 15) which grip a steel bar (27) between their circumferential edges and one of which (10 or 11) is in each case mounted on an upper link (6). This upper link (6) is for its part mounted by means of two mutually parallel articulated plates (7, 8), in the manner of a parallelogram, on a machine frame (1) in such a way that the driving disc (10 or 11) can perform a circular arc-shaped movement about the lower driving disc (14 or 15) assigned to it. As a result of this mounting of the upper driving discs (10 or 11), the pressing force of the driving discs is automatically adjusted to the steel bar in each case in accordance with the insertion resistance occurring. <IMAGE>
