In this device, there is provided a number of circular-shaped upwardly open moulds (1) with the dimensions of the rummer to be formed, which moulds can be pivoted about an axis into a number of work positions. In the first work position, there is arranged above the mould (1) an upwardly open filling device (5) with a circular-shaped opening facing towards the mould (1) lying below. Above the filling device (5), a transport device (21, 23) for the straw (2) opens. Moreover, there is provided an additional device (11, 25) for filling the straw into the mould (1). Subsequently, the mould (1) is pivoted into the work position in which a part section of the rummer is pressed by means of two hammers (6, 7) working in synchronism against one another. After each pressing operation, the rummer is advanced inside the mould (1) by a feed device (9) by a given distance. During the advance of the rummer to be formed, its pressed part is bound by means of a binding ring (8) arranged behind the hammers (6, 7). Finally, the mould with the finished rummer is pivoted further into the work position provided for removal and then into the first work position for filling with straw. <IMAGE>
