A rotary-piston internal combustion engine has a cylindrical rotary piston (5) which can be rotated about its longitudinal axis in a precisely fitting manner in a trigonal hollow shell (1) and seals off three engine chambers (2, 3, 4) of the trigonal hollow shell from one another. Spring-loaded vanes (11, 12) are arranged in recesses (9, 10) of the rotary piston, are guided in sealing fashion on the inner wall of the hollow shell or engine chambers and, in the corresponding position, seal off from the engine chambers in each case one valve chamber of a valve body (17, 18, 19), which valve chambers are arranged at the beginning of each engine chamber in the hollow shell in the direction of rotation (14) of the rotary piston. The valve bodies are arranged with a precise fit in valve chamber housings (16) and have outward-leading intake and expulsion chambers (23, 26) and an explosion chamber (29). The valve bodies can be driven by the rotary piston about their longitudinal axis, which is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the rotary piston. The valve chambers have openings which are in communication with the associated engine chambers in the appropriate position of the valve bodies. <IMAGE>
