An automatically operated heating boiler for solid fuels with a filling shaft (1), a combustion chamber (3) arranged below the latter at the side and a heating gas flue (8) arranged above the chamber is to be built as compactly as possible and in particular in such a manner that cleaning of the heating gas flue (8) is possible from the front side of the boiler. To this end, there are provided in the heating gas flue (8) superimposed horizontal pipe rows (9, 10) in the form of lower smooth pipes and, arranged above these, ribbed pipes. The smooth pipe rows (9) serve as a radiation heating surface and the ribbed pipe rows (10) as a convection heating surface. <IMAGE>
