Mixts. of cellulose acetate (I), a plasticizer such as triacetin, a nucleating agent, and blowing agent are suitable for extrusion as open-cell foams for use as filters for cigarettes. The I does not decomp. during extrusion. Thus, a mixt. of powd. I 78.9, triacetin 16.9, perlite 4.2, and acetone 3.75 parts was extruded at 240≦̸C and drawn to prep. open cell foam (d. 0.109 g/cm3) for use as filters for cigarettes.
