In known spring hinges a spring mechanism is accommodated in a small housing in the interior of the hinge region. This device is expensive and also not entirely operationally reliable, since the springs can break. Because of the relatively large housing, the system is suitable only for bulky spectacles, because then the spring hinge mechanism does not stand out. The invention produces in a simple way an aesthetic spring hinge that is constructed from simple components, has a long life, and can also be used without changing the frame. The bow rising angle can be adjusted as previously. According to the invention, this is achieved when a second hinge half is provided behind a second bow riser surface in an inwardly open niche which is a little longer than this second hinge half, a longitudinal guide device is provided in the longitudinal direction of the straight region of the ear bow on the second hinge half and in the niche, there is provided in the niche and on the second hinge half in each case a stop surface such that when it is stopped the second hinge half is in its hindmost position and the bow riser surfaces touch one another, the stiffening rod, which is anchored at its end region in the ear bow, is connected to the second hinge half and mounted in an axially displaceable fashion in a longitudinal bore of a first sublength of the ear bow, the first sublength is followed by a compression element whose front end face bears against the rear end face of the first sublength and whose rear end face bears against the front end face of a second sublength, situated further behind, of the ear bow, the distance between the rear end face of the front sublength and the front end face of the rear sublength being smaller than the length of the unloaded compression element, and the stiffening rod passes transversely through the compression element and is firmly anchored in the second sublength. <IMAGE>
