A refractory insulating composite block has, on more than one surface of a refractory fibre block, a covering in the form of a flexible, refractory panel which consists of a) 100 parts by weight of refractory substances, such as alumina, magnesium oxide, silica, chamotte and silicon carbide, b) 1 to 20 parts by weight of an organic fibre and/or of an inorganic fibre and c) 2 to 50 parts by weight of a binder. e
