For the purpose of achieving great efficiency with a slender construction and justifiable waste-gas counterpressure, there extend in contact along one surface line in the sound-absorber housing (1) and are rigidly interconnected a region (12) of the inlet pipe (2) and an additional pipe (4); via a perforated disc (11) connected downstream of the housing-internal end of the inlet pipe (2), only a part of the waste gas reaches an interference chamber (7) while the other part of the waste gas is guided back through the pipe-free cross-sectional regions (17) of the housing to the inlet-side end (5) of the additional pipe (4), the other end (6) of which likewise opens into the interference chamber (7). <IMAGE>
