CONTINUOUS CASTING METHOD

PURPOSE:To decrease the central segregation and center porosities in a continuously cast ingot by adding prescribed metallic powder to molten metal and subjecting the molten metal to an electromagnetic agitating treatment while keeping the metallic powder suspended. CONSTITUTION:In continuous casting, metallic powder such as iron powder of a prescribed compsn. is added at about 0.9-1.3% to molten metal in a tundish or the like. While said metallic powder is held suspended, the molten metal is subjected to an electromagnetic agitating treatment. The central segregation and center porosities of the ingot can be reduced simultaneously by the combination use of the electromagnetic agitation and the suspension casting method. The quantity of the metallic powder to be added is reduced as well.
