DIAGNOSTICS IN GROUND PROXIMITY WARNING SYSTEMS

PHF 76560 25.5.77 In a ground proximity warning system used in aircraft to warn of the proximity of dangerous terrain conditions by reference to specified flight warning mode envelopes, an automatic diagnostic system is used to monitor system errors, particularly in the acquisition channels for analog input parameters HR, HB and GS which are monitored continuously at all altitudes. The diagnostic system substitutes test values for the said parameters which are compared against stored reference values, the results being displayed in diagnostic form after filtering by a time constant which takes into account the effects of transient errors. In addition to diagnosties visually displayed both on the front panel of the system and in the cockpit of the aircraft in a manner which defines non-operational parameters and flight warning modes, back-up diagnostics in the form of crew initiated audio test sequences are provided.
