PURPOSE:To enable to provide a stable gas laser having good efficiency and oscillation by employing a plurality of cathodes and switching and connecting the cathodes to a power source, thereby rapidly suppressing the temperature rise of the cathodes. CONSTITUTION:A plurality such as 2 cathodes 1 are provided at a discharging unit, and are alternately connected to the negative electrode of a power source via switching elements 2, 2'. Copper pipes are fixed to in parallel state to electrically insulating supporting plates 3, and are cooled with coolant such as water which is passed through the pipes. The elements 2, 2' are opened and closed at the prescribed interval, many anodes 6 supported by the plate 5 are arranged at the prescribed interval toward the longitudinal direction of the cathodes 1, and are commonly connected to the positive electrode of the power source through a stable resistor 7. Since the cathodes 1 are alternately discharged at the prescribed interval, one cathode 1 is sufficiently cooled while the other cathode 1 is operated, thereby rapidly suppressing the temperature rise of the cathodes. |
