PURPOSE:To reduce the consumption of fuel for heating in a sulfur recovery process, by a method wherein the sensible heat of the outlet gas from an oxidation vessel is recovered and the recovered heat is used as a heat source to suppress the rise of the gas temp. at the inlet of an adsorbing tower and to prevent the lowering of the adsorbing capacity of said adsorbing tower. CONSTITUTION:The waste gas of a boiler is sent to an adsorbing tower 7 through a denitration apparatus 3, an air preheater 4 and an electric dust collector 5 and subjected to the adsorptive removal of SOX therein by an adsorbent using coal as a stock material, and the waste gas is discharged as a purified gas 8. The adsorbent 9 having SOX adsorbed thereby is regenerated by a desorbing tower 10 to be returned to the adsorbing tower 7. The desorbed SO2 gas is flowed through a reducing tower 12, a condenser 13, a heater 14, a Claus reactor 15 and a condenser 16 to be recovered as sulfur 17 by the condensers 13, 16. The residual gas containing unreacted SO2, CO and H2 is oxidized catalytically in an oxidation vessel 18 and the high temp. gas 19 subjected to oxidation treatment is introduced into a waste heat recovery boiler 20 to recover the heat and sent to the upstream side of the adsorbing tower 7 while the temp. thereof is lowered. Supplied water 21 subjected to heat exchange in the waste heat recovery boiler 20 is converted to steam 22 and this steam is utilized as the heat source of the heater 14. |
