PURPOSE:To efficiently wash fresh activated carbon and to thoroughly separate and remove fine powder contained in the carbon by dividing a washing vessel into upper and lower chambers with a dividing plate provided with nozzles at an angle of nonrepose and nozzles at an angle of repose and feeding washing water to activated carbon dropped into the lower chamber. CONSTITUTION:A fresh carbon storing or washing vessel 1 is divided into an upper chamber 5 and a lower chamber 6 by attaching a dividing plate 4 provided with many nozzles 2 at an angle of repose at which no activated carbon is dropped and many nozzles 3 at an angle of nonrepose at which activated carbon is dropped to the inside of the vessel 1. When activated carbon is charged into the chamber 5, part of the carbon drops into the chamber 6 through the nozzles 3 and accumulates, and spaces are left under the nozzles 2. By feeding washing water to the chamber 6 from a feeding pipe 8, the carbon in the chamber 6 is fluidized using the spaces as a margin for expansion to separate fine powder contained in the carbon. The washing water contg. the fine powder enters the chamber 5 through the nozzles 2, 3, and after partially washing the carbon remaining in the chamber 5, the water flows out from the overflow groove 7. |
