PURPOSE:To provide the titled controller which does not decelerate printing speed and prevent irregularities in the spacing of printed characters from being generated, by setting a spacing delay time in accordance with the moving amount of a carriage at the time of a spacing operation. CONSTITUTION:A main controlling circuit 1 discriminates whether or not a spacing operation is a continuous spacing operation, and in accordance with the results of discrimination, the circuit 1 outputs data PD on the number of steps and data RD on the spacing direction to a discriminating circuit 6 for the spacing amount and a discriminating circuit 7 for the spacing direction. A setting circuit 8 for the spacing delay time sets the spacing delay time in accordance with the moving amount or the moving direction of the carriage. A spacing delay time corresponding to a discrimination signal from the circuit 6 or the circuit 7 is set on a timer circuit 9 for the spacing delay time. |
