The female connector is designed to be fitted to an individual wire, riveted or soldered as a printed circuit board connector or fitted in an instrument case to form a socket. It is formed from a single metal sheet stamping and shaped in successive operations. A tapering tray at one end of the connector can be crimped to grip a cable. The base of the connector has a forward-protruding tongue with round-ended rims. Two side-wings have curved strips which have a natural springyness on bend to touch the base-plate. Two further side-projections bend in and down on the curved strips to provide extra elastic restraining force. When the blade of a small connector is inserted between the curved lower sides of the curved strips and the base-rims, a large-area electrical contact with considerable surface friction force is created.
