Electrophotographic plate containing an - azo compound

Electrophotographic plate comprises a binder, and an azo compound, of formula: (where R is the residue of an aromatic or heterocyclic coupler, R' and R2 are each H, amido, alkoxy (opt halogenated) aryl or heterocyclic) e.g. 1-(1 pyrenylazo)-2-naphthol, 1-(1'-naphthylazo)-2-hydroxy-8-acetamidonaphthalene, or 1-(1'-naphthylazo)-2-naphthol. The plate has a sensitivity covering most parts of the visible spectrum, and also has a high resistance to wear during use.
