<p>The connector consists of a plug in the form of a plastics box, and a socket having a cavity shaped similarly to the plug and also housed in an insulating box. The back internal face of the plug has a series of separated compartments each with a rectangular boss with a metal, threaded cover plate. The blade of the plug is bent around at right angles over the cover plate and is fixed to the boss by a screw. Each contact blade has a concave kink near its end to provide elasticity during insertion into the socket. A central partition wall forms a support for the blades and guides them into the socket. The plug head is of rectangular form with a polarising lug which also carries a blade contact on each side. When the plug is inserted into the socket, the kink in the blade is distorted by compression between the two contact rails. Electrical contacts are made with wires attached to the plug through openings in the cover.</p> |
