PURPOSE:To make it easy to obtain a catalyst layer having low electrical resistance and ability sufficient to supply a gas to the catalyst by mixing the catalyst layer with a foaming agent, after that, removing at least a part of the foaming agent through heating or dissolution or the like. CONSTITUTION:The material for a catalyst layer is formed by incorporating a foaming agent with the catalyst and a wafer repellent, and at least a part of the foaming agent in the catalyst layer is removed before baking the catalyst layer formed by this material for the catalyst layer. When at least a part of the foaming agent is removed, it is possible to obtain such a catalyst layer as having a pore-diameter and a porosity corresponding to the particle-diameter of the foaming agent and the amount of the mixture of the foaming agent respectively, since the spaces where the foaming agent exists are changed to pores. And also sufficiently unform porosity distribution is obtained by way of sufficiently uniform mixing of the foaming agent with other materials for the catalyst layer during the process of mixing the foaming agent. Thus, it is possible to obtain a fuel cell which is provided with the catalyst layer having low electrical resistance, ability sufficient to supply a gas to the catalyst and low dispersion. |
