The fitting has two mutually pivotable fitting holders, of which one fitting holder is firmly connected to a seat part and the other fitting holder to a backrest part. One fitting holder has a pivotably mounted detent pawl and the other fitting holder a counterdetent part which, in the detent position, engages into the detent pawl and retains the first fitting holder relative to the other fitting holder in one pivoting direction. The fitting is also equipped with a blocking part which retains at least the first fitting holder in its other pivoting direction. The first fitting holder is thereby secured against pivoting in the first pivoting direction by the detent pawl and the counterdetent part and in the other pivoting direction by the blocking part.
