A method and a device for adjusting the picture density in an electrophotographic copying device are produced, in which latent, electrostatic pictures are formed on a photoconductor, by applying electric charges to the surface of the photoconductor, and in which the electrically charged surface of the photoconductor is then exposed as an image by means of an exposure device; in the method and in the device, the temperature of the photoconductor is determined, and the light quantity for the exposure is adjusted, by changing either the voltage applied to the light source of an exposure device or the width of an exposure slot of an exposure device corresponding to the determined temperature of the photoconductor, so that the surface potential of the photoconductor exposure lies within a predetermined range.
