In a spinning machine with drafting units for high delivery speeds, such as are used, for example, in wind-round spinning processes, the lower rollers (3) are assigned individual upper rollers (14) which are held in links (11), which are under spring force (12), by supporting and load arms (8) arranged pivotably and lockably in stays (7). Each stay is fastened on a supporting-rod portion (6) which is mounted rotatably on the machine and which can be rotated by an associated adjusting means (16) into a load position for the upper rollers (3) and into a position lifting them off from the lower rollers (3). The adjusting means (16) is switched, by means of a monitor (32) assigned to the material (31) running out of the drafting unit, in such a way that, in the event of a material break, the adjusting means (16) rotates the supporting-rod portion (6) out of its load position for the upper rollers (14) into the position lifting them off from the lower rollers (3) and at the same time switches on a clamping device (36) assigned to the roving (131) at the entrance of the drafting unit. Favourable preconditions for repiecing are thereby afforded. <IMAGE>
