The invention relates to a surface testing device, in particular for large test objects, for determining shape, configuration and roughness. The device comprises a tension wire straight edge with a tension wire system and scanning systems for scanning the same. Arranged on both sides of the tension wire system are scanners of which at least one is connected to an actuator. The scanner facing the test object carries a displacement sensor, which is provided with a scanning element and transducer, for scanning the test object surface. A servo system is provided which adjusts the scanners to zero via the actuator. The scanners and the displacement sensor are connected to an evaluation device. The individual surface parameters are output via an output arrangement.
