An apparatus for dewatering sludges is described, which for this purpose is essentially composed of an outer vessel (1) and a filter device (2) inserted into this vessel (Figure 1). The vessel can be designed as a container open at the top and having inclined walls. The filter device (2) is composed of a perforated sheet insert (3) and a filter cloth (4), with which the perforated sheet insert (3) is covered on the inside. The sludge to be dewatered placed in the apparatus is retained by the filter cloth (4). The water drains through the filter cloth (4) and the holes (14) in the perforated sheet insert into the vessel (1). The vessel (1) is provided with a water discharge device, which can be opened or closed as desired. <IMAGE>
