A method of making a catheter comprises the steps of pre-treating a portion of a catheter shaft 1 made of plastics material, conveniently polyvinylchloride, with a solution of reacting silane. The portion of the shaft 1 treated with the reacting silane 8 is immersed in water. A balloon 5 of silicone rubber is fitted over the treated portion of the shaft. A room temperature vulcanising silicone 9 is applied to the portion of each end of the balloon 5 to be contacted with the shaft 1 and/or to the shaft. The room temperature vulcanising silicone is then allowed to cure. The method is also applicable to the bonding of a funnel of polyvinylchloride to a shaft of silicone rubber. <IMAGE> |
