A writing or drawing pen has a barrel (1) with surfaces which generate a polygonal cross-section. Close to the front end of the barrel (1) are gripping surfaces (5) extending only over part of the length of the pen and forming an approximately triangular cross-section. Close to the rear end of the barrel (1) are three support surfaces (7) which likewise extend over only part of the length of the pen and form an approximately triangular cross-section. Support surfaces (7) and gripping surfaces (5) are offset angularly relative to each other. <IMAGE>
