Magnetic tape and like webs (12) are cleaned by being passed over an apparatus including a series of sharp scraping edges (24) at the periphery of a corresponding series of horizontal air ports (20) in a table (14) through which a vacuum is drawn laterally across the bottom of the web (12). The horizontal air ports (20) are connected to corresponding vertical air ducts (18) distributed across the table (14) at different points along the length of the table (14) whereby there is no situs on the web (12) being cleaned on which loose debris can be immobilized in a zone of stagnant air over the table (14). |
