In an apparatus for cutting flat material to size, with a hand-operated cutting-to-size machine (4) which has a driven pinion-type cutter (3) movable to and fro and which, at its end facing away from the pinion-type cutter, is arranged suspended on a slide (6) which is mounted movably to and fro on a guide track (9) transversely spanning an elongate bearing surface (7) for layered bundles (8) of flat material, which guide track (9) is part of a frame (10) movable to and fro in the longitudinal direction of the bearing surface (7), it is to become possible to cut out from the layered bundle (8) at high speed blank parts having relatively small roundings, acute angles and the like, for which purpose the pinion-type cutter is designed as a compass-type cutter (11) extending downwards freely and in a non-guided manner from the cutting-to-size machine (4) and has a thickness of at most 3 mm and a width of at most 9 mm. <IMAGE>
