The use of compounds of the formula I <IMAGE> in which: R<1> is C5- to C16-alkyl, R<2> is C1- to C7-alkyl, C2- to C7-alkenyl or benzyl, R<3> is H, CH3 or C2H5, R<4> is identical or different R<2> radicals, X<(-)> is halide, methosulphate or tosylate, n is 1 to 4, as bactericides against sulphate-reducing bacteria.
