PURPOSE:To automatically set an optimum recording level, by providing a test signal generating circuit, and a circuit for detecting the maximum output level (MOL) of a reproducing signal in accordance with a reproducing output of a test signal. CONSTITUTION:An output of a test signal generating circuit 27 is recorded to a magnetic tape 23 through a recording circuit 21 and a recording head 22 in order, and MOL of the magnetic tape 23 is detected by an MOL detecting circuit 28 by use of a reproducing signal obtained in an output of a reproducing circuit 25. By using an output of this circuit 28, an optimum recording level corresponding to MOL of the magnetic tape 23 is automatically set by a recording level setting circuit consisting of a level control part 30 in a CPU 29, and a recording level regulator 31. In this way, even in case of a magnetic tape of any kind, it is possible to execute recording which has utilized the dynamic range to the maximum, and has scarcely distortion. |
