PURPOSE:To prepare the titled substance useful as a raw material for the preparation of a phenolic resin for special use, selectively, in high yield, by using a specific 2-substituted cyclohexanone compound and a styrene compound as starting materials, and heating the materials in a liquid phase at a specific temperature in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula IV (R<1> and R<2> are H or lower alkyl) can be prepared by heating a 2-substituted cyclohexanone compound of formulaI, formula II or formula III and a styrene compound in a liquid phase at 210-290 deg.C, preferably 220-270 deg.C, in the presence of a hydrogenative reduction catalyst, preferably a Pd-carrier catalyst, preferably in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent such as benzene, toluene, etc. The concrete examples of the compounds of formulaI, formula II and formula III are 2-cyclohexenylcyclohexanone, etc., 2-cyclohexylidenecyclohexanone, etc., and 2-phenylcyclohexanone, etc. respectively. |
