PURPOSE:To change the width of each printing letter arbitrarily by controlling the interval between the picture elements in the direction of the width with respect to character pattern data which is outputted from a character generator in accordance with the clock period of a print control signal obtained by a timer. CONSTITUTION:A character width data register 34 stored specified print control data which instructs the reduction of the printing characters outputted from a print control part 30 and a carriage timer 35 outputs a carriage control signal with the clock signal which follows the contents of the register 34, and outputs a carriage control signal PCP-A for ordinary printing at the predetermined specified clock period at the time of ordinary printing operation. When the reduction in the character width is specified, the carriage control signal PCP-B for reduction printing which has the reduction period longer than the carriage control signal PCP-A for ordinary printing, is outputted at the clock period that follows the contents of the register 34. |
