<p>In a control arrangement for a motor vehicle including a brake system and an engine, which can be arbitrarily switched off by the driver via a switching device, for example by a so-called stop-start device 40, the brake is arranged to be automatically applied when the vehicle speed is below a set value, or negative, upon switching-off of the vehicle engine (by switch 42). This saves an application of the handbrake at every stop such as at a traffic light which has been necessary until now. In the circuit shown, a switching signal for switching off the engine is tapped off at the output 36 of the "stop-start device" 40 and conducted to a switching stage 34 which produces the adjusting signal for the adjusting element in the form of an electric motor 15 acting on the parking brake linkage.
