1290544 Gas fuelled lighters A RACEK 31 Oct 1969 [4 Nov 1968] 53566/69 Heading F4F A gas fuelled lighter wherein the height of the flame may be altered includes a tank 1 with a valve comprising a porous throttling member 12 which is contained in and on which pressure is exerted by a cup-shaped adjusting member 11 movable relative to the gas tank 1, the tank 1 being sealed by a diaphragm 23 which is gripped by inner gripping means in the vicinity of the adjusting member 11 and is also gripped by outer gripping means radially beyond the adjusting member 11. As shown, the inner gripping means comprise a flange 21 of the adjusting member 11 and a ring 22 which is shrunk on to the adjusting member 11 with a setting member in the form of a hollow screw 3 for moving the adjusting member 11 bearing on the ring 22; the outer gripping means comprise a flange 15 of a humped member 14 and a clamp ring 24. The diaphragm 23 extends outwardly beyond the outer gripping means and contacts the inner wall of the tank 1 and the diaphragm also contacts a retaining member 16 which conically flares from the flange 15. The adjusting member 12 also contains a plug 13 having a serrated outer periphery which plug bears on the humped member 14. In use, a hollow valve stem 4 is raised by known means and gas which is stored in liquefied form in bibulous material 20 in the fuel tank 1 flows through openings 28 in the humped member 14 over the serrated outer periphery of the plug 13 and then through the throttling member 12 to escape through the hollow valve stem 4. The height of the flame may be varied by rotation of the hollow screw 3 to compress the throttling member 12 more or less. The setting member may comprise a cam instead of the screw. Also the diaphragm need not extend beyond its outer gripping means, a seperate sealing ring being used as an outer seal.
|
