PURPOSE:To detect abnormality in molds in an early time in the stage of continuous casting by detecting the change in the mechanical impedance formed of a mold and an ingot. CONSTITUTION:A transducer 6 which generates elastic waves to a mold 1 when applied with electric signals is mounted to the mold 1. When the lugricating characteristics between the mold 1 and an ingot 2 change owing to a certain case, the mechanical impedance of the mechanical system constituted of the mold 1 and the ingot 2 changes and the electrical impedance of the transducer 6 changes as well. The change thereof is detected by observing the electric current flowing in the transducer 6. |
