In a process for insulating a roof which has a base course 1 with insulating boards 2 which are placed on the base course 1 and fastened thereto, the insulating boards 2 are fastened to the base course 1 using straps 3 made of weldable material, the one end 5 of these straps being welded to the base course 1, after which their other end 6 is led up around and in over an upper edge part 7 of the insulating boards 2 and is welded thereto possibly after the middle part 25 of the strap has been welded to the end face 9 of the insulating board. A firm anchorage of the insulating boards to the base course is thereby achieved, even when it is not possible to stick them directly to the base course or anchor them mechanically using members fitted directly in the base course. A strap 3 for use in the process consists of reinforced bitumen, with the effect that it is easy to weld on and displays good resistance to normally occurring stresses. <IMAGE>
