A titanium containing catalyst component for polymerization of olefins is obtained by bringing a magnesium-containing solid obtained by contacting: (a) metallic magnesium, (b) a halogenated hydrocarbon represented by the formula RX (where R is an alkyl group, aryl group, or cycloalkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; and X is a halogen atom), and (c) an alkoxy compound represented by the formula X min mC(OR min )4-m (where X min is a hydrogen atom, halogen atom, or alkyl group, aryl group, or cycloalkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms; R min is an alkyl group, aryl group, or cycloalkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; and m is 0, 1, or 2), into contact with an alcohol and organoaluminum compound, and subsequently bringing the resulting contact product into contact with a titanium compound.
