PURPOSE:To prevent a type bar from erroneously striking a paper-pressing member, by providing a detector which detects the condition wherein a typewriting paper fixed to a platen by the paper-pressing member has reached a terminal position where printing can be conducted. CONSTITUTION:Type bars 22 are sequentially operated to print on the typewriting paper 2 fitted on the platen 1. When shifting the line, a motor is rotated to rotate the platen 1, whereby the paper 2 is rotated clockwise by a small amount at a time. When the platen 1 is driven by the motor 19 to the position where the type bar 22 strikes a lower-end paper-pressing member 13 if the next line shift is conducted, that is, the printable end line of the paper 2, a reed switch 24 provided on the member 13 rotated together with the platen 1 is faced to a magnet 23 fixed on the inside of a side wall plate 9 of the typewriter. Accordingly, the reed switch 24 turns OFF the motor, preventing the next line shifting. Namely, the type bar 22 is prevented from striking the lower-end paper- pressing member 13 due to the line shifting as a result of the rotation of the motor. |
